New Star, Inc. is a physician owned risk retention group specializing in medical malpractice liability coverage for physicians who are preferred risks. Started by Novant Health and its employed physicians, we take a proactive approach to managing your practice risk.

At New Star, we know many physicians who practice at Novant Health hospitals have excellent quality outcomes and few, if any claims. However, quality physicians are often the ones who must bear the high premium costs of the commercial malpractice market driven by the claims histories of a few. That’s why New Star came to be – to assemble physicians with similar philosophies of quality, patient safety and risk management – so that the benefits of the many far outweigh the risks of the few.

In addition, we have a team of risk specialists who will provide you with guidance when you need it most.
